About

The International Water Resource Economics Consortium (IWREC) was established in the early 1990’s with the goal of forming a platform for water economists that would promote economic work on water resources, exchange of information and research findings, initiate joint research, disseminate individual and joint work, and create a core of experienced teachers that may provide support for training and short courses, both at the academic and policy levels.

In the first two and a half decades of it’s existence, IWREC focused on periodic meetings that took place in Berkeley, CA; Rehovot, Israel; College Park, MD; Honolulu, Hawaii; Girona, Spain; Melbourne, Australia; Annapolis, Maryland; Berkeley, CA (2009); Banff, Canada (2011); Stockholm, Sweden (2012), and Washington DC (2014).  These meetings led to several publications of books and special issues.

IWREC was coordinated by it’s members at UC Berkeley and the University of Hawaii. Management of IWREC moved to  to the Water Science and Policy Center at UC, Riverside in 2007, and has since move to the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia.

No fees are required for IWREC membership. Members’ participation in IWREC meetings is funded by the members themselves.

If you are interested in joining IWREC and adding your name to the distribution list, please send an email to John Janmaat with “Joining IWREC” in the subject line.
